mellark-is-our-king: please explain loki's relationship with horses..
This is rather long, but it’s the full myth, so it’s gotta be! Hehe.
So, erm, in Norse Mythology, the gods of Asgard were having this wall built to protect their city and the builder said it would take a year. He then asked for Freyja (the goddess of love and beauty) to marry him as his payment. Loki made a bargain with him that he had to finish it in 6 months, or the deal was off, thinking they’d get half a wall done for free. The builder was like, sure, as long as my horse can help me! The gods laughed, thinking what help can a horse be and said yes.
So, the builder works over the winter with his super strong horse and actually gets reeeally close to finishing the wall and all the gods turn on Loki, telling him he made a bad deal! Loki says no normal person and horse could do that in 6 months, ergo: the builder must be a giant! So Loki makes a new plan, turning himself into a beautiful mare (yup, a mare) and seduces the builder’s horse, Svaðilfari. They leave the builder, who becomes very angry at loosing his horse and reveals he is a giant. Along comes Thor, who kills him with Mjolnir.
Loki, knowing the gods will still be angry with him, doesn’t come back for a while and when he does, he brings his son, Slepnir, who he gave birth to whilst a mare (Honest, it’s in the myth!). Slepnir is an eight legged horse, who Loki gives to Odin as a gift to appease him.
So yeah, that’s why there are so many Loki/Horse jokes xD Creepy creepy myths are very creepy :3
